I saw the flashing lights of the ambulance
Reflecting in the window, and I knew
One more angel of death, another act of mercy
A release from the chains of painful life
That you could no longer stand nor bear
How do you feel now? I almost envy you
One moment in a lonely nursing home
Then suddenly in brilliant joy long forgotten
The rush of meeting your wife for the first time again
And the thrill of seeing God in all His glory
Leaving behind your cancer stricken body
With its mind a fading shadow of itself
No more tears, no more sorrow, just heavenly peace
That we the living cannot understand
And may never know.
